Easter Island

Remote and mysterious, Easter Island remains one of the most isolated islands in the world. Best known for its imposing Moai statues, other highlights include the vast Rano Kau volcanic crater and the ceremonial Orongo village. As well as the incredible visitor sites, the island also has some of Chile's clearest waters for diving, whilst you can now also see the ancient sculptures from the water for an alternative viewpoint.

Rano Kau

The volcano of Rano Kau is topped by a very large low crater with a narrow rim on all but the western side. Here the rock has dropped away to give a fabulous view out over the Pacific. A lake in the crater is dotted with islands of floating reeds of the species found on Lake Titicaca - cited as evidence for Thor Heyerdal's 'Kon-Tiki' hypothesis.

Orongo

When walking around the rim of the Rano Kau volcano you reach the Orongo ruins- a highly significant site in the Birdman ceremony. From the Orongo viewpoint there are great views of the Pacific ocean.

Easter Island and Torres del Paine were excellent as expected. In addition we were delighted by Hotel Remota and la Casona - thank you for your suggestions. We would have liked more time in Santiago and Puerto Natales plus more time on Easter Island.
