The extraordinary Hugo Chávez had a massive impact on Venezuela's political stage but the post-Chavez era has been fraught. Venezuelans are immensely proud of their democracy but the body politic of the post-Chávez era has repeatedly fallen short. The consequences have run right through Venezuelan life and have created disruptions that currently stand in the way of normal safe travel.
