Costa Rica

Combining Costa Rica with other countries

There is more than enough in Costa Rica itself for a very varied holiday, but Panama and Nicaragua would also combine easily.

Costa Rica and Nicaragua

The easiest land route between these two countries is by road at Peñas Blancas in northwest Costa Rica, but for a more adventurous option see also our 'Costa Rica and Nicaragua off the beaten track' itinerary which
uses the San Juan River to connect with Costa Rica. There are several flights a day between San José and Managua and international airlines that operate to each country offer open-jaw tickets that allow you to fly into one and out from another.

Costa Rica and Panama

It is possible to cross between Costa Rica to Panama at Paso Canoas on the Pan-American Highway.
Daily flights between the two countries make the route less arduous for those wanting to hop across the border for a few days of beach time. There are multiple daily flights between San Jose and Panama City, three flights a week between David and San Jose and several flights a week between San José and Bocas del Toro.
