Beautiful landscapes for growing the best coffee

Spread between Andean ranges, Colombia's Coffee Zone (which has UNESCO World Heritage status) has an excellent climate for high quality coffee, with proud farmers working closely with their local conditions for the best results. Visitors are welcomed everywhere, at classic haciendas, in vividly painted small towns that celebrate their traditions, and high valleys where elegant wax palms grow to immense heights.

Los Nevados Natural Park

Los Nevados Natural Park

Snow-capped peaks and paramos, active volcanoes and Andean wildlife

One of the crown jewels of Colombia's national parks, Los Nevados has 5 volcanoes (2 are active) and protects a terrific range of ecosystems from dense cloud forests to high Andean paramos and beyond. Look for spectacled bear and mountain tapir, with Andean condor and endemic high-altitude hummingbirds among its birdlist of over 400.

Rio Blanco Nature Reserve

Rio Blanco Nature Reserve

One of the most biodiverse regions on the planet

Just outside the town of Manizales this small reserve is both beautiful and intensely birdy with over 500 species in just 5,000 hectares. (Some say it's the best birding site in Colombia - quite a claim). It's a lovely place to visit even if you're not a keen birder.

Jardin

Jardin

A fine example of Colombia's colonial Andes

Founded in 1863, the small town of Jardin preserves a simple elegance: whitewashed façades, carved wooden balconies draped in flowers, and a splendid basilica fronting its palm-lined plaza. Many call Jardin the most beautiful town in Antioquia for this blend of nature, heritage and gentle mountain life.

Jardin de Rocas

Jardin de Rocas

A garden for Andean Cock of the Rock

A tiny private garden and nature reserve of just 1 hectare of natural planting crossed by streams below sculptural rock formations, with a 'guarantee' of seeing Andean Cock of the Rock - sometimes as many as 25 males dancing at their lek.

Minca

Minca

A delightful small town in the mountains

Minca is a small town in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, a peaceful retreat among forests, waterfalls, and coffee farms. Visitors can swim in natural pools at 'Pozo Azul', visit organic coffee farms, and enjoy lovely mountain views. The area is also great for birdwatching.

El Dorado Lodge

El Dorado Lodge

Spectacular setting

El Dorado Lodge, high in the Sierra Nevada, enjoys one of the most beautiful settings in Colombia. Brilliantly architected but very simple thatched roundel rooms are individually poised above the similarly striking lodge building. Run for ProAves (the Colombian RSPB) there are good trails into the hillsides for walkers and birders.

Tayrona National Park

Tayrona National Park

Tayrona

Sensational Caribbean beaches backed by palm trees and lush natural forests in a large national park only partly accessible to visitors. Busy on local holidays, closed for a month each year, otherwise a wonderful area to relax and explore.
