Wildlife holidays in Chile

World renowned National Parks are home to some of the world's most majestic creatures.

In a country with the geographical extremes of arid altipanic desert to the glaciers of the southern ice field, Chile has some distinct eco-systems and iconic wildlife. With over 20% of the country covered by protected reserves and parks, nature in all its forms is central to any tour of the country. Our itineraries can showcase the best that Chile has to offer either for those where wildlife is the main focus of the trip or simply for an overview of the main highlights. In the north Andean flamingos and Condors rule the skies, whilst further south on Chiloe Island is only the only place where Humboldt and Magellanic penguins coexist together. Further down the world's thinest country and in the Torres del Paine National Park herds of Guanacos cautiously roam the grasslands, whilst the rather more timid and endangered Huemul deer is a rarer sighting. A sighting of the largest and most elusive predator in Patagonia within the limits of the park is becoming more common, and some lodges now operate Puma specific tracking programmes over a number of days for the best possible opportunity of spotting one. In Chile's southernmost zone meanwhile a colony of King penguins remain the star attraction, and they are possible to visit in an adventurous day trip from Punta Arenas city.
