Extensions to
Venezuela
from Trinidad & Tobago
For a holiday with a difference, why not travel beyond Trinidad and Tobago to Venezuela, for spectacular landscapes, impressive wildlife, great beaches and vibrant Latin American culture.
Some airlines’ transatlantic flights to Trinidad can be extended to include Caracas at little extra cost.
Venezuela combines a long Caribbean coast - more than all the Caribbean islands put together - backed by a succession of colourful and varied regions from the driest of deserts to the lushest of cloud forests. To the west lie the northernmost cordilleras of the Andes, with peaks rising to 16,000ft. The grassland plains of the Llanos make up the centre of the country. Flooded for part of the year and baked dry for the rest it is one of South America’s most important wildlife areas. The Orinoco, one of the world’s great rivers, crosses Venezuela entering the Atlantic via a massive delta. To its south lie the rainforests of Amazonia, and the Gran Sabana: a unique ‘lost world’ of ancient table mountains above savannah and forest.

Health
In addition to the recommendations for Trinidad and Tobago, a yellow fever vaccination and anti-malarial pills are also recommended for visiting Venezuela. Your doctor will probably advise both proguanil (daily) and chloroquine antimalarial tablets, to cover up legs and arms, particularly at dusk, and to use an insect repellent containing DEET (diethyl-toluamide).
Consult your doctor or travel clinic well in advance, preferably 6 weeks before travel.
