Getting there
Please see our Booking Information insert for current details of flights to Nicaragua. Many people visit Nicaragua as an extension to a trip to Costa Rica, entering by land via the Pan-American highway at Peņas Blancas, perhaps flying home from Managua.
Accommodation
The choice of hotels in Nicaragua is limited, but there are good options in each of the principal towns, often newly updated or in well-restored colonial buildings.
Travel options
For the time being the favoured option is with a guide/driver. Car rental can be problematic and navigation is not straightforward. English is not common.
Guides
Our guides are all Nicaraguans. They are typically well educated, fluent English-speaking and very experienced.
A note of caution
Nicaragua is far less developed than Costa Rica but has its own rewards. While the infrastructure improves we strongly recommend travelling with an experienced English-speaking driver/guide. Allowance must be made for occasional inadequacies and shortcomings: a corresponding degree of caution, flexibility, and patience will also help.
