We are members of AITO, the Association of Independent Tour Operators, the association for the UK's top independent and specialist tour operators.
AITO holiday protection makes it simple for you. No matter the type of holiday you book, you can relax in the knowledge that:
- AITO requires its members to protect all their customers
- AITO monitors its members closely and
- AITO also provides its own guarantee of financial protection if all else fails
It means that you can relax and enjoy your AITO holiday from the moment that you book it.
This protection is more complete than the protection required by ABTA (the Association of British Travel Agents).

How we protect your holiday
Holidays booked in the UK that include air travel booked through us
We hold an Air Travel Organiser's Licence issued by the Civil Aviation Authority (ATOL number 5292).
This means the air tours we sell are ATOL protected. In the unlikely event of our insolvency, the CAA will ensure that you are not left stranded abroad and will arrange to refund any money you have paid to us for an advance booking.
ATOL protection extends primarily to customers who book and pay in the UK. For further information, visit the ATOL website:
Everyone else who books with us
Geodyssey also protects customers whose tours do not include flights and those who book from outside the UK.
If your tour does not include flights, the insurance we hold with Travel and General will financially protect your tour in the same way except, if already abroad, you will be returned to the point where your contracted arrangements with us commenced. Further details are available on request.
Credit card protections
Did you know that, when you book direct or via the web with a scheduled airline, you do not have financial protection? Did you know that over 15 airlines have gone out of business in the last two years? They were mostly no frills carriers, but did you know that national carriers such as Swissair and Sabena have also ceased to trade? Tens of thousands of customers have lost their money.
Credit card companies make a strong play that you are protected if you buy a holiday using your card. However many people have found that they were unable to claim their money back when they have paid with a credit card, because there are so many exclusions with different credit card companies.
Customers have also been kept waiting for many months because of disputes between the Civil Aviation Authority and credit card companies as to which of them is liable.
