Ecuador's Andes, in particular, is an astoundingly good destination for an adventurous family and complements a trip to the Galapagos very well.
Planning a family holiday to Ecuador
With a family it is usually important to limit the amount of time spent travelling. By basing your visit to Ecuador around Quito you can experience the heart of the Andes, with short journeys to many of the best places, such as Otavalo, Cotopaxi, and a selection of others.
Some caveats:
- Ecuador is in the tropics, so young skin accustomed to northern climes needs extra protection.
- Ecuador requires the usual vaccinations for any tropical country. Malaria is absent in the Andes, but is present in the Amazon and some other parts (which you can avoid visiting).
- Ecuador's standards of safety are different from those in the UK and may sometimes not be properly enforced. We cannot protect you from such differences.
- international flights to Ecuador can be quite long. The total journey time for flights via Europe can be over 16 hours.
