Costa Rica is well set-up for visitors, and is deservedly popular with more adventurous-minded families from the USA and Canada. It is starting to be popular with British families too.
Planning a family holiday to Costa Rica
In many places there are good options for active kids, as well as wildlife viewing and beach.
Some caveats:
- Costa Rica is in the tropics, so young skin accustomed to northern climes needs extra protection.
- Costa Rica requires the usual vaccinations for any tropical country. Malaria is largely absent, but is reported in some parts (which you can avoid visiting).
- Costa Rica's standards of safety are different from those in the UK and may sometimes not be properly enforced. We cannot protect you from such differences.
- international flights to Costa Rica can be quite long. The total journey time for flights via Europe can be over 16 hours.
